Cuba Ratifies its Committment With Caricom

The Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, ratified the commitment of Cuba with CARICOM, during his speech at the Conference of Heads of Government of the Organization that took place in Jamaica, on July 5, 2018. President Díaz-Canel recalled how the Mother of the Cuban Homeland, Mariana Grajales, died in Jamaica 125 years ago; Mariana was the mother of several Heroes of the Cuban Independence, including Antonio Maceo Grajales. The Cuban President stressed that only together can we successfully face the challenges of our region. President Díaz-Canel reaffirmed that Cuba supports the just claim of the Caribbean to access trade and investment on favorable terms and to receive international cooperation, which Cuba encourages. The Cuban President raised the importance of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, signed by the Heads of State and Government of Latin America and the Caribbean, in Havana, Cuba, on the occasion of the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held on January 28 and 29, 2014. President Díaz-Canel indicated that Cuba will continue to develop relations with the Caribbean Community in the areas of Health, Education, Sports, Culture, Tourism, and Foreign Trade and to confront the adverse consequences of Climate Change, among other areas. “Cuba would like to express its appreciation for the permanent support and friendship of the Caribbean peoples”, the Cuban President concluded.
