Kaniel Martin and Avie Howell
Antigua St John’s – Murderers Avie Howell and Kaniel Martin have been sentenced to three life sentences. Howell and Martin appeared on Friday before High Court judge Justice Richard Floyd, who imposed the consecutive life sentences.
Martin and Howell were found guilty of the murders of Woneta Anderson and British honeymooning couple Benjamin and Catherine Mullany.
Floyd said there was no evidence to show who was the leader or what role each played in committing the heinous acts, therefore there could not be no differentiation in sentencing.
The judge admitted that there was nothing the court could do or say that would allow the families of the Mullanys or Anderson to make up for their loss.
Justice Floyd said the weight of the evidence was overwhelming, and that the jury rightly convicted both men.
“The offences are grave… The violence inflicted extreme. They (the murders) were done for greed and economic gain.
The murders were repugnant and distasteful,” he said.
